Backyard Concrete Patio Project

Large backyard concrete patio poured in stages to create a better play area, preserve the tree planter, and tie into the existing paver walkway.

This backyard concrete patio was built to give the family a better play area for the kids and create a larger finished space off the house. Because access was tight, this was a wheelbarrow job and the patio had to be poured in stages instead of all at once.

Layout and Prep

We started by laying out the new patio footprint across the backyard and shaping the area for the new concrete sections.

First Pour and Staged Access

Since we could not get the whole patio placed in one shot, the job was poured over different days for access reasons. The first section was placed and finished so the larger patio area could start taking shape.

Tree Planter and Walkway Tie-In

One of the important details on this project was leaving the existing tree planter in place and pouring around it cleanly instead of removing it. The new concrete also had to tie into the existing paver walkway so the whole backyard would feel connected instead of patched together.

Finished Backyard Patio

Once all the pours were completed, the homeowner had a much larger, cleaner backyard patio that gave the kids a better area to play and made the whole space more usable.

Why This Scope Worked

This project worked because the patio was planned around how the family actually uses the yard. The multi-day wheelbarrow placement solved the access issue, the tree planter stayed in place, the paver walkway tied in cleanly, and the finished result gave the kids a much better outdoor play surface.
